Located in western Uganda near Fort Portal, Kibale National Park is a lush tropical rainforest covering about 795 square kilometers. The park’s evergreen rainforest and diverse habitats support thriving primate populations and rich birdlife.
Known as one of the best primate destinations in Africa, it is often called the “Primate Capital of the World.” The park was gazetted in 1993 and protects a rich mosaic of forest, swamp, and grassland habitats.
Kibale sits at elevations between 1,100 and 1,600 meters and is famous for its high density of chimpanzees. The park hosts 13 primate species, including red colobus, grey-cheeked mangabey, and L’Hoest’s monkeys. It also serves as an important corridor connecting to Queen Elizabeth National Park.
Wildlife lovers will find over 70 mammal species and more than 375 bird species. The park’s dense forest and biodiversity make it a premier destination for primate tracking and nature immersion.
